Derek Jeter |
Taken with the sixth overall pick in the 1992 draft, Jeter has done everything imaginable during his incredible playing career. However, after an injury-riddled year in which he only played 17 games in 2013, many people speculated that Jeter's playing days were numbered.
In his post, Jeter talked about the decision to walk away from the game he has loved his entire life.
"As I suffered through a bunch of injuries, I realized that some of the things that always came easily to me and were always fun had started to become a struggle," Jeter stated. "The one thing I always said to myself was that when baseball started to feel more like a job, it would be time to move forward."
Although he will certainly be missed by every baseball fan, Jeter's accomplishments as a player will make it hard for anyone to forget him. Along with winning the 1996 Rookie of the Year, Jeter's illustrious career includes numerous other awards including being a 5X World Series Champ, 13X All-Star, 5X Silver Slugger, 5X Gold Glover, and a member of the 3,000 hit club.
