Diamondbacks Bulster Rotation, Add Veteran Arroyo

Bronson Arroyo
The Diamondbacks continue to improve their 2014 roster, signing veteran right-hander Bronson Arroyo to a two-year deal with a club option for 2016. The contract is worth a guaranteed $23.5 million with Arroyo earning $9.5 million in each of the next two seasons. After the two seasons are up, the Diamondbacks can choose to exercise Arroyo's team option for $11 million or release him with a $4.5 million buyout.

Arroyo, 36, played well in his final season in Cincinnati with a 14-12 record, helping the Reds make the playoffs for the second straight year. With 202.0 innings pitched in 2013, Arroyo eclipsed the 200 innings pitched mark for a impressive ninth career year. His proven durability was certainly a major factor in the Diamondbacks pursuit of him, given the extensive injuries to their rotation last year.

Arroyo joins an impressive Diamondbacks rotation that includes Patrick Corbin, Brandon McCarthy, Wade Miley, Trevor Cahill, and Randall Delgado.

The move allows prized prospect Archie Bradley to start the season in AAA and gives the D'Backs some much-needed depth at an important position.
